Step-By-Step Instructions:
1. Open a photo or image in Photoshop onto a new layer. You should have a white background layer and a layer with the photo.

2. Select the Crop tool.

3. While holding down the SHIFT key, click and drag on the photo to create the area that you want to crop (holding down the SHIFT key will allow you to create a perfectly square cropped area). You can let go of the mouse button and adjust the shape handles of the crop area for fine tuning (remember to continue holding the SHIFT key down, while adjusting the shape handles if you wish the crop to remain perfectly square.

4. Hit the ENTER key to apply the crop.

5. Goto Image > Canvas Size. The Canvas Size pop-up will appear. Click the drop down boxes to the right of the Width and Height fields. Change the default measurements to "Pixels".

6. Add the same amount of additional pixels to both the Width and Height fields. Click OK.

7. Right click the Layer that has the photo on it. Choose "Blending Options" from the pop-up list.

8. Click the "Drop Shadow" option to activate it. Adjust the Angle setting. Also adjust the sliders for Opacity, Distance, Spread, and Size. When the appearance of the shadow looks how you like, then click OK to close the "Blending Options" box.

9. Congratulations! You should now have a drop shadow of your image!
